The premiere of Tchaikovsky's ballet "Sleeping Beauty" staged at the State Academic Theatre of Classical Ballet under the direction of N. Kasatkina and V. Vasilyov held in Cannes (France), where the festival of Russian art at the end of August 2004 with the triumph toured theater. A few days after the performance the French press headlines with enthusiastic epithets addressed to the directors and actors.
Despite the huge success in France, some adjustments were made to the Moscow premiere. In particular, added a modern and, as they say Kasatkina and Vasilev, avant-garde light, the scenery there and about 50 suits, which by the Cannes premiere of the extremely limited time did not have time to make. Suffice it to say that for the "Sleeping Beauty" was necessary to sew about 300 costumes, some actors during the play dress up 5-6 times.
Like all ballets set Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev, "Sleeping Beauty" can be considered as the author, the original formulation. Retaining all classic masterpieces of choreography by Marius Petipa, music directors saturated with new effects. By connecting the two fairy tales by Charles Perrault - "Sleeping Beauty" and "Beauty and the Beast" tale story has become more dynamic, intriguing and magical.
